Sydney: Indian skipper Virat Kohli finally broke his silence on taking paternity leave amid the Australia tour, which will kick start from Friday (November 27). Kohli will only play the first Test match, he would miss the three of the four-match Test series against Australia. He will return from Australia after the opening Test match to be with his wife actress Anushka Sharma at the birth of his first child in January 2021.

On Thursday (November 26) the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an interview video of Virat Kohli, where Kohli said, he is very excited to welcome their bundle of joy and want to be with his wife to experience the precious moments of their lives. He also said his decision of taking paternity leave was made before the selection meeting.

“I would be flying back after the first test. And, that was purely based on the fact that we had a quarantine period both ways. I had explained the same to the selectors during our selection meeting. And, I wanted to be back home in time to be with my wife for the birth of our first child, it is a very very special, and a very very beautiful moment in our lives. And, something that I truly want to experience, so, that was the reason behind my decision.” Kohli said.

“The decision was made before we had the selection meeting.” he added.

After staying away from international cricket for nearly about nine months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Men in Blue army will resume international cricket with a number of three-match ODI series against Australia beginning from Friday (November 27) . India will take on Australia in three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests.
