Tata Steel Chess 2021: If I am in good form, I should be one of the clear favourites, says Sam Shankland

Kolkata: The Tata Steel Chess India Rapid and Blitz tournament is back with their third edition after a gap of year. It will take place in National Library, Kolkata from November 17-21. This time, fourteen players will compete, and Sam Shankland will be playing in India for the first time, and he is overjoyed to be here.

“If I am in good form, I should be one of the clear favourites”, stated US Chess Champion 2018 Shankland at the Draw of Lots Ceremony Press Conference on Tuesday.

He also added while stating about his chances of assessing the tournament that “It will be a great opportunity for me and I am incredibly impressed with how these strong young Indians are and how much they have improved. And I have followed their careers with great interest and like I have learnt a lot from their games and got a sense of them.”
