Tokyo: PV Sindhu’s search for an elusive Olympics gold medal came to an end on Saturday as the Indian lost 18-21, 12-21 in the semifinal against Chinese Taipei’s World No.1 Tai Tzu-Ying in the women’s singles. The Indian will next play Chinese He Bing Jiao for a bronze medal.

Tzu-Ying will face another Chinese Chen Yu Fei in the final. The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist raced away to a 7-3 lead in the first set before Tzu-Ying made a brilliant comeback to level at 15-15. Thereafter it was a neck-to-neck affair as Tzu-Ying grabbed three match points to go 1-0 up.

Losing momentum, Sindhu was no match for the Chinese Taipei shuttler in the second set as she surrendered tamely without giving much of a fight.
