Goa: Bengaluru FC beat Chennaiyin FC 1-0 in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the GMC Stadium in Goa on Friday (December 4). Sunil Chhetri was the only scorer in the game from the penalty spot.

Bengaluru coach Carles Cuadrat set up his side in a 4-3-3 formation with Juanan being paired with makeshift centre-back Rahul Bheke at the heart of the defence. Youngster Suresh Wangjam formed a midfield trident alongside Eric Partalu and Dimas Delgado. Deshorn Brown shared the frontline with Sunil Chhetri and Cleiton Silva.

The match was played with high intensity from the first whistle with both the sides having their fair share of ball possession creating numerous chances. Esmaël Gonçalves was causing a problem to the defence of the visitors due to his pace and physicality while Lallinzuala Chhangte, from the left-wing, was playing very good creating chances either from crossing or by making a run. Despite creating chances, both sides failed to open their account in the first half.

However, in the second half, a chance came to Bengaluru when Cleiton Silva was taken badly by Edwin Sydney Vanspaul in the box. Sunil Chhetri, as always reliable scored the winning goal from the penalty spot. Bengaluru went close again when Dimas attempted an outrageous long-range drive which was on the target going in but goalkeeper Vishal Kaith made a stunning fingertip save.

Suresh had a great for the visitors with his excellent work-rate and passing from the middle of the park. Chennai tried hard but, wasn’t somehow finding the finishing touch to make something happen. In the end, Bengaluru took full three points to get themselves to stand at the third position in the points table.
