Sri Lanka overpower India to seal T20I series

Colombo: Dasun Shanaka’s young Sri Lankan side outplayed India by seven wickets in the final T20I game in Colombo sealing the series 2-1 on Thursday.The hosts trapped the Indian batters into their spin-web restricting them to a mere 81/8 in 20 overs.

Wanindu Hasaranga (4/9) on his 24th birthday registered his best-ever bowling figures in T20Is leading the charge for Indian batting landslide alongside his skipper Shanaka (2/20). In fact, it was Kuldeep Yadav (23) who was the highest scorer with only a couple of other batters reaching double digits.

 

Sri Lanka, despite losing the top three to Rahul Chahar (3/15), took the game over the line in 14.3 overs sealing their first bilateral series win over India in 13 years. Although, this was rather second stringent of the Indian squad, Sri Lanka’s young guns look very promising specially Hasanranga who has been adjudged the Player of the series.

On the other hand,this Indian side was more about implementing trying and testing method for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Rahul Dravid’s debut stint with the senior side could prove to be pivotal as main squad could see a change of their coach later on.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 82/3 in 14.3 overs (Dhananjaya de Silva 23 not out, Minod Bhanuka 18; Rahul Cahar 3/15) beat India 81/8 in 20 overs (Kuldeep Yadav 23, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 16; Wanindu Hasaranga 4/9) by 7 wickets.
