Ladakh: Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju placed the foundation stones in the presence of Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur for various sports facilities, including an astroturf for football and a synthetic track at the recently formed Union Territory of Ladakh on Monday (September 14th).
The sports ministry said in a statement that the synthetic track and astroturf for football will come up at an open stadium at Leh at a probable cost of Rs. 10.68 crore and is preset to be completed by January 2021.

On that occasion, Rijiju also stated that the government is committed to engrafting a sports culture in the country and the construction of a gymnasium hall has also been planned to establish in NDS indoor stadium at an expense of about Rs. 1.52 crore that will be completed by March 2021. He suggested Ladakh UT Administration provide awards and incentives like jobs for local sportspersons to encourage them more in the field of sports.
Lieutenant Governor Mathur requested the Sports Minister to tap the potential in Ladakh for development in sports and he also added that people from different parts of the country should visit Ladakh to experience winter sports.
