Ahmedabad: After bundling England out for 205, India finished at 24/1 at stumps trailing by 181 runs on Day 1 of the fourth and final test match on Thursday(March 4). The men in white and blue currently have the ever-reliable Cheteshwar Pujara(8) along with Rohit(15) Sharma at the crease at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
England won the toss earlier in the morning opting to bat. However, they had a poor start, losing quick wickets in earlier part of their innings. The spin twins of Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin again fired on all cylinders. Axar send both the openers home with Mohammed Siraj trapping Joe Root LBW before lunch. With England needing some sort of resilience, Ben Stokes started rebuilding the innings but rest of the batting line up were unable to support the burly allrounder at the crease.
Stokes brought up his fifty before falling in the trap of Washington Sundar for a grity 55 runs off 121 balls. Apart from him and Daniel Lawrence(46), others were unable to cope with the quality of the Indian spinners making it the worse for them.
Axar’s 68/4 coupled with Ashwin’s 47/3 powered Virat Kohli’s side to wrap up England’s innings for 205.
India lost Subhman Gill for a duck to James Anderson in the very first over of their innings. Despite an early stumble, Rohit and Pujara looked steady at the crease aiming to build on the good start on Day 2.
