SKY101 to organize first mountain megathon in Jammu-Kashmir

Patnitop: A two-day first annual mountain megathon – SKY101 – will be held next month in the famous Patnitop hill resort in Jammu and Kashmir, organizers announced on Saturday, announcing promotional events across the country to encourage large-scale participation.

Skyview by Empyrean, a recently launched hospitality venture of Empyrean Skyview Private Limited (ESPPL), stated that the major goal of the SKY101 is to raise awareness about a healthy lifestyle and promote the beautiful Patnitop and Sanget region.

Empyrean’s Skyview Patnitop ropeway has the highest ground clearance in India (over 65 metres) and is the largest Indo-French collaboration in mountain infrastructure development. It was built in 2.4 years under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and began commercial operations on July 20, 2019.

“SKY101 will be held on November 13 and 14 at Skyview World, Sanget. It is the first-of-its-kind event in India, testing athletes on their multi-discipline sports endurance – cycling and running in mountain trails,” Managing Director, ESPPL, Syed Junaid Altaf said.

Participants from throughout India, he added, would put their talents and stamina to the test on the difficult terrain of the Himalayan foothills while competing for glory, cash prizes, and other prizes.

To raise awareness and drive registrations, he said the first promotional event in Jammu was held last week at Satwari, where nearly 50 participants from various Jammu cycling clubs, including members of Jammu’s first women’s cycling club, cycled to the Suchetgarh border and covered a total distance of about 25 kilometres.

“More promo events are being organized in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Delhi in the coming days. We hope participants will register wholeheartedly and make this event a success and look forward to it as an annual event,” Altaf said.

According to him, the SKY101 event is supported by the J&K Tourism Department, the Cycling Federation of India, the Jammu Kashmir Cycling Association, and the JK Sports Council, among others.
