Dubai: Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, has called the decision to award Australia’s David Warner the Player of the Tournament of T20 World Cup unfair.

Akhtar was present in the final in Dubai where Australia beat New Zealand by 8 wickets with Warner himself being a star performer with a knock of 53.

The Aussie south-paw smashed s 289 runs from seven matches at an average of 48.16 including three half-centuries.

However, Akhtar believes the award should have been given to Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

“Was really looking forward to seeing Babar Azam becoming Man of the Tournament. The unfair decision for sure,” Akhtar tweeted after the game last Sunday.

The 27-year-old opener was in stellar form and grabbed headlines after scoring 303 runs from six innings at an average of 60 despite his side not even playing in the final while becoming the only player in the history of the T20 World Cup to score 300+ runs in a single edition of the tournament.
