Kolkata : 2025 is nothing short of miracle, surprise. The year seemed to have been scripted by God. From Harry Kane winning first major title to Virat Kohli adding missing piece in his puzzle – IPL trophy, this was a season where sports won.
RCB and Virat Kohli break curse to conquer maiden IPL Trophy
RCB & Virat Kohli, a bond made in heaven, faced 18 years trophy drought. Since commencement of IPL, RCB reached finals in 2009, 2011, 2016 but were unsuccessful in winning any of the final. They also used to get knocked out everytime after qualifying for payoffs or even league stages. But the wait is finally over as they defeated PBKS in IPL 2025 final by 6 runs, replying to all criticisms with the maiden title. Besides this, the modern day great Virat Kohli who has been with the team from his teenage to this time where he’s a veteran now, finally added this missing piece – an IPL trophy to his decorated cabinet.
Harry Kane wins first major trophy
English legend Harry Kane with over 700 process games, personal milestones had a missing feather – a trophy to his name. He finally added one after Bayern Munich bagged Bundesliga 2025 title. The legendary career of Kane tasted trophy for first time after this. The English captain was previously at Spurs where he faced trophy drought. Neither did he win any in England. But he finally won it with the German giants in 2025.
Crystal Palace bag FA Cup, their first ever major trophy
Crystal Palace defeated European giants Manchester City 1-0 in FA Cup 2025 Final with Eberechi Eze’s goal. The club with more than 120 years long history didn’t win a single trophy but finally got touch to it winning the prestigious final, after losing the tournament in 1990 and 2016 finals.
Newcastle clinch League Cup, ending 56 years trophy drought
New Castle defeated Liverpool 2-1 in League Cup final with goals of Burn and Isak, winning a major title since Inter Cities Fairs Cup 1969. The club also endured 5 relegations to 2nd tier since their last trophy with club legends like Alan Shearer, Paul Gascoigne, Malcolm MacDonald failing to win the silverware.
Tottenham Hotspur and Son get hands to first major title
Spurs clinched first major trophy since 2008 after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in UEFA Europa League Final. This was their first European triumph since 1984. This also marked maiden title for Spurs skipper Son Heung-min, who joined the club 10 years ago.
PSG touch UCL trophy glory
PSG under Marquinhos conquered their maiden UCL trophy hammering Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. They’re only the 2nd French club to do so. It was a glory moment for captain Marquinhos who led bunch of young lads to the title win, having joined the club in 2013, going through all ups and downs. Despite coming close to UCL win in 2019-20, they ended up as runners up upon being defeated by Bayern Munich. However, they turned the tables this time touching the ultimate glory.
North East United FC clinch maiden major title
Durand Cup 2024-25, defending champion Mohun Bagan Super Giants in front and in front were Juan Pedro Benali’s North East United FC who haven’t won any major titles by then. After the match ended with a tie, North East defeated the Bengal giants in penalty shootout, grabbing their first major title, the Durand Cup.
Bologna win Copa Italia, ending 51 years trophy drought
Bologna defeated AC Milan 1-0 in Copa Italia final with help of Dan Ndoye goal to have hand on the trophy, ending 51 years drought. It secures Bologna a place in next season’s Europa League, with Milan – who have not won the Italian Cup since 2003 – still uncertain of a European place.
All these miracles happened in the season of 2024-25. This can be said that a season where sports have won.
