Mumbai: Rohit Sharma’s journey from being a young prodigy to now India’s limited-overs captain is certainly a one for ages. The 34-year-old star man was announced as India’s new ODI captain by the BCCI, ahead of the upcoming tour to South Africa.

The cricket fraternity too wasted no time to pick up a major throwback to celebrate the moment as moments after the Mumbaikar’s appointment, a 10year-old tweet went up on social media going viral.

In his post a decade ago, the “Hitman” had expressed his disappointment after being left out of India’s 2011 ICC World Cup squad which the Men in Blue later went on to become champions at home.

A decade later, Rohit has now become one of the pillars of the side alongside current Test skipper Virat Kohli, who was actually in that title-winning side under the regime of MS Dhoni.

Rohit was going through a rough patch back at the time however, redeemed himself at the showpiece event as one of the white ball batsmen in the 2015 edition in Australia and New Zealand hitting 330 runs from 8 matches including a staggering 137 in the quarterfinal against Bangladesh. If that’s wasn’t enough, four years later that in the 2019 World Cup in England, Rohit set the tone much higher as he amassed 648 with 5 centuries to finish as the highest run-getter in the tournament.

Last but not the least, a couple of years from now, he will most probably be leading his national side in the 2023 World Cup and that too at home.
