Rohit Sharma replaces Virat Kohli as India’s Test captain

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (February 19) announced that India’s white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma will take over from Virat Kohli as the captain of India’s Test team as well.

Rohit was appointed as a full-time T20I and ODI skipper in December. The 34-year-old has since led India to a T20 series win at home against New Zealand before whitewashing West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series held in Ahmedabad recently. On Friday, India took an 2-0 lead in the T20Is in Eden Gardens Kolkata.

The BCCI also announced India’s squad for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. India will host Sri Lanka in three T20Is and two Test matches, starting on February 24.

While the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha dropped from the Test team. Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain in absence of injured KL Rahul. Former skipper Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the T20Is.
