Kolkata : As per reports, Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma and top order Batter Shubman Gill is set to miss the 1st Test against Australia of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at Perth, starting from November 22, 2024.
Rohit, who didn’t travel with the main Indian squad and stayed back for birth of his 2nd child on November 15 is set to miss the 1st Test and likely to join the team for the Adelaide Day-Night 2nd Test starting from December 6.
While Rohit had communicated to the BCCI and national selectors in advance that he could miss the Perth Test, he had kept open the option of last-minute travel based on when the child was born. However, he told the BCCI he will be available to play the two-day, pink-ball warm-up game against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI from November 30 before the day-night Test in Adelaide.
In his absence, Indian iconic pacer and vice captain Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team in Perth Test. KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran might replace him as opener.
On other hand, Indian top order Batter Shubman Gill is likely to be ruled out from Perth Test as he suffered a fracture left hand thumb during India’s simulated practice match, while taking a catch at slip cordon.
With Gill’s absence, multiple reports suggest that all rounder Nitish Reddy make his Test debut at Perth, adding Batting depth and Bowling option.
Apart from them, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Harshit Rana are 3 more options India would like to explore.
