Ashwin believes that Kohli is on a temporary break from his duties and will get back after some rest.

Mumbai: For the first time since 2013, former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli will play under another captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli who led the team for the final time in the 2nd half of IPL 2021, is the only player to represent one franchise in every season of IPL.

Veteran India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who will represent the Rajasthan Royals in the forthcoming season, recently made a bold prediction regarding Virat Kohli’s future at RCB and the appointment of Faf du Plessis as the new captain of the franchise.

“Faf is more like towards the end of his IPL career. Maybe, he has two-three years left with him. And they have made him the captain, which is quite a good decision. He brings in a lot of experience and in fact, he has himself said that we can see a bit of MS Dhoni’s touch in his captaincy skills,” said Ashwin on his official YouTube channel during a conversation with former performance analyst of South Africa Prasanna Agoram.

According to Ashwin, Kohli’s stepping down as RCB captain might be a stop-gap decision. He also indicated on his official YouTube channel that the Indian batsman could return to lead the side once again in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).  “I feel that since Virat Kohli  has undergone a lot of stress as a captain in the last few years, this year will be like a break for him and they might appoint him as a captain next year is my guess,” Ashwin added.

The former South Africa captain who was bought by RCB for 7 crores, is an IPL veteran and played a pivotal role in Chennai Super Kings’ title wins in 2018 and 2021 both. It will be interesting to watch how Du Plessis led RCB as a skipper this year. RCB will start their campaign against Punjab Kings (RCB vs PBKS) on March 27.
