Delhi : Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs in Arun Jatley Stadium. The Match was famous for Sanju Samson’s 86 runs innings being a lone fighter in a losing cause. However, it also landed in a controversial decision scenario regarding Sanju Samson’s dismissal saga.

Rajasthan Royals were batting with a target of 222 runs against Delhi Capitals. The incident took place around 15.3 overs, when RR needs 60 runs off 27 balls.

Sanju Samson played a shot off Mukesh Kumar at the boundary, DC fielder Shai Hope palmed the ball on the boundary line and was able to take the catch properly. But the on-field umpires asked the third umpire to assist about the dismissal. The third umpire dismissed Sanju Samson after watching some footage.

After giving out Sanju Samson could not accept the third umpire’s call. There was also an argument with the umpire in the field. By breaking the code of conduct, his 30 percent of the match fee has been deducted.

The point of argument was that some angles of footages suggested the foot of Hope touched Boundary cushion and some footages contradicted it by close call.

Rajasthan Royals head of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara opened up about the overall incident. He said, ‘It depends entirely on replays and viewing from different angles. Sometimes it seems that the feet touched. It is difficult for the third umpire to take such a decision.”

Sangakara also added, “That’s the important part of the game, but it happens. Our perspective, may differ but at the end of the day we have to accept the third umpire’s decision. No matter how different our opinions are. But yes, we will definitely share our opinion with the umpire.”
