PV Sindhu to open Tokyo Olympics campaign against Israel’s Polikarpova Ksenia

Tokyo: Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu will be opening her Tokyo Olympics women’s singles campaign against Israel’s Polikarpova Ksenia in a Group J encounter on July 25, the organisers released the schedule of the first two days of the competition.

The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist has been clubbed in an easy group, also comprising Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi. Ngan Yi is ranked 34th in the world while Polikarpova is 58th. She is seeded sixth in the tournament.

In the men’s singles, Indian B Sai Praneeth will face Misha Zilberman of Israel in his first Group D match on July 24. The top player from each group will advance to the knockout round of singles.

On the other hand, India’s men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are currently ranked 10th in the world, will face Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin in their opening Group A match at the Tokyo Olympics.
