Southampton: Mason Mount’s second-half penalty help Chelsea earn a hard-fought draw with 1-1 scoreline against Southampton in the Premier League. The Blues denied the hosts a win at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday(February 21) after Takumi Minamino put his side ahead in the first half with a cool finish.

Despite seeing much of the ball, the visitors found it hard to find the net. Marcos Alonso had the earliest chance but his volleyed effort went wide while defender Kurt Zouma’s header went straight at the Saint’s goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

Southampton against the run of play took the lead. Nathan Redmond threaded a ball breaking the line of the defence for Minamino who kept his composure before slotting it home.

Chelsea equalized when Mount converted his spot-kick after he was taken down badly by Danny Ings in the penalty box with a clumsy challenge. However, they some unable to take advantage of that in the rest of the game. Jannik Vestergaard could have won it for the hosts but the cross denied his header while they kept it tight to frustrate Thomas Tuchel’s sharing spoils after the final whistle.
