Paris Saint-Germain sign Italy’s Euro 2020 hero Gianluigi Donnarumma

Paris: Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer from Serie A club AC Milan. As per reports, the 22-year-old penned a five-year deal with PSG, the club confirmed the arrival on Wednesday.

Donnarumma was adjudged the Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament after his stellar performances for Italy especially in the final against England. He also helped AC Milan finish second in Serie A last season securing a Champions League berth for the first time since 2013-14.

 

“I am very happy to be part of this great club that is Paris Saint-Germain. I feel ready to take on this new challenge and continue to grow here. With PSG, I want to win as much as possible and give joy to the supporters,” said Donnarumma on the move.

Tamed as a precautious talent, he spent six seasons in the Rossoneri colours after making his debut in 2015 aged 16, He appeared 215 times in the Serie A with 88 clean sheets. A year later, he also became the youngest goalkeeper to debut for Italy at 17 years and 189 days against France.

“All the Rossoneri I met, from the first to the last day, will always be in my heart as a fundamental part of that journey through life that made me what I am today.I wish Milan all possible success and I do that with my heart, for the affection that ties me to these colours, a sentiment that distance and time cannot cancel,” Donnarumma posted an emotional Instagram message to the Milan supporters.

“I arrived at Milan when I was little more than a child, for eight years I wore this jersey with pride. I also achieved important personal targets with the Rossoneri shirt, such as my debut at the age of 16 in Serie A. I experienced extraordinary years that I will never forget,” the youngster stated.

PSG after a disappointing last season are determined to get back on track with their long conquest of lifting the continental title. They have done some good business so far with already securing the signings of Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum, both on free transfers from Real Madrid and Liverpool respectively. They purchased right-back Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan to add quality at the back.
