Paris : Indian Women’s wrestler Antim Phangal has landed in trouble after violation of disciplinary rules, and is set to be sent back to India along with support staffs, with accreditation cancelled. However, IOA has ruled out the rumours regarding banning the players, as reported by ample media sources.
Phangal reportedly tried to facilitate her sister entering Olympics Village giving her own athlete accreditation card. However, the French police arrested her sister. Police even summoned Antim for all verifications.
The Indian Olympic Association decided to send her and her support staff back after the disciplinary breach was brought to its notice by the French authorities.
“Her sister was caught for impersonation and was taken to a police station to record her statement,” a source had revealed last night.
“Her sister was detained and taken to a police station and it took a few hours for the Indian Olympic Association officials to seek her release,” said other sources aware of the development.
“Taking a strong action against her team, the organisers have asked IOA to cancel her accreditation and fly her back to India. Their tickets have been booked and they are not allowed to leave their hotel,” said an official from Paris.
There were speculations regarding that IOA might ban her for her actions, but IOA ruled out such rumours.
IOA informed to their social media handle, “IOA refutes reports that a ban has been imposed on wrestler Antim. It requests media persons to please check with the IOA leadership before posting such reports”.
Phangal crashed out of the Olympics 2024 Wrestling – Women’s 53 Kg Freestyle, suffering 0-10 defeat against Turkish Zeynep Yetgil.
