Paris : In a heartbreaking tone, the dreams of Vinesh Phogat’s joint Silver hopes in Wrestling in Paris Olympics 2024 got shattered as Court of Arbitration (CAS) dismissed her appeal on August 14.

The decision was postponed a few times, however, a final verdict was given today.

Vinesh was disqualified from 50 Kg Women’s Freestyle after being 100 grams overweight. She marched into finals clinching hattrick of wins including win against World Champion Yui Susaki. However, in her weigh-in before final, she was found 100 grams overweight and got disqualified.

Vinesh filed 2 appeals – 1 of having a gold medal rematch which CAS rejected instantly, & 2nd being given a joint Silver medal, which finally got rejected today.

“The operative part of the August 14 decision, which dismisses Vinesh’s application to be awarded a shared silver medal in women’s 50 kg category at the Paris Olympic Games has significant implications for her in particular and the sporting community at large,” the IOA stated.

Phogat retired after being disqualified from the tournament, shattering her medal hopes. The verdict ultimately means India will end their campaign officially with 6 medals.
