Paris : Indian Badminton star & 2 times Olympic Medalist PV Sindhu defeated Estonian Kristin Kuuba 21-5 , 21-10 , in straight sets to book place in Round of 16 .
This win followed her earlier triumph over Maldives’ Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq, whom she defeated 21-9, 21-6.
Topping Group M in the women’s singles, Sindhu secured her spot with a commanding performance in the group stage.
Sindhu’s match against Kuuba showcased her technical superiority and strategic gameplay.
From the outset, she was in control, establishing an early lead of 6-0 in the first game. Sindhu’s aggressive smashes and precise net play left Kuuba struggling to keep pace.
By the first break, Sindhu was leading 11-2, and she continued to build on this lead, eventually winning the first game 21-5.
In the second game, Sindhu maintained her aggressive approach. Despite a brief rally from Kuuba that brought the score to 3-2, Sindhu quickly regained control. Her powerful smashes and deft drop shots increased her lead to 11-6 by the second break.
Kuuba managed to win a few points, but Sindhu’s relentless pressure and superior court coverage saw her clinch the game 21-10.
Sindhu is now set to face China’s He Bing Jiao, the Group N topper, in the round of 16 on Thursday. This upcoming match is particularly noteworthy as it is a rematch of the Tokyo 2020 bronze medal match, where Sindhu triumphed over He Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15, making history as the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals.
