National Institute of Sports(NSNIS), Patiala and Centre for Sports Science(CSS-SRIHER), Chennai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) to jointly conduct six-month online courses in sports physiotherapy and sports nutrition. The course was launched on Monday(August 3) with an aim to provide knowledge of Sports Science at the grassroots level.
A two-week physical workshop will be held as a part of the six-month course once COVID 19 pandemic subsides.
Colonel RS Bishnoi, Senior Executive Director (Academics), Sports Authority of India said, “The new courses in sports science are aimed to strengthen the grass-root level sports ecosystem by imparting training in a more scientific way.”
“After completion of these courses, these professionals will be equipped to work alongside community coaches and developmental coaches at the grass-root level and provide better training to junior athletes. In the second phase, SAI will also introduce courses in exercise physiology, sports biomechanics, strength and conditioning, sports psychology.”
The eligibility criteria to apply for Sports Physiotherapy course is a Masters in Physiotherapy. Candidates with a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy with three years of work experience in a sports institute, team or club can also apply for the entrance examination.
Those with a Masters degree in any of the streams including, clinical nutrition and dietetics, quality control, foods and nutrition, public health nutrition, applied nutrition, food science and sports nutrition can apply for Sports Nutrition entrance exam.
“These courses are designed to include the latest international practices in the field of sports physiotherapy and sports nutrition,” Professor Arunmugam, Director of CSS-SRIHER said, “The inclusion of sports science, even at the grass-root level, will help professionals working in this field to understand the needs of an athlete better. The best Indian faculty and foreign experts will be teaching in this course.”
The application form is available from August 3 till August 10. Eligible candidates will be able to apply for the course, and the written online exam will be held on August 16. The course will commence on August 24.
