London: The domination of Novak Djokovic continued as he claimed his sixth Wimbledon title crushing Matteo Berrettini 6-7(6-4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final on Sunday. Having already claimed the French Open earlier in the season, this was also the Serbian’s record-equalling 20th Grand Slam leveling himself with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

If he wins the US Open in New York in September, Djokovic will become just the third man in history after Don Budge (1938) and Rod Laver (1962 and 1969) to complete the calendar Grand Slam. “It was more than a battle. He is a true Italian hammer I felt it on my skin,” said Djokovic of Berrettini.

The Serbian extended his trophy cabinet to 85 career titles and also became the first man to break the 150M dollar prize money barrier. A gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics could give him the first-ever Golden Grand Slam by a male player.

In his 30th major final, despite a wobbling first set, Djokovic bounced back like a true warrior after the Italian won the first set to take the lead. The top seed made a quick turnaround to take a 5-1 lead in the second set. Berrettini made his way into the game to 4-5 but kept his cool to make the scores level.

Djokovic was at the top again in the third set leading 2-1 and fought off three break points in the sixth game. The Italian tried hard to contain the champion but Djokovic served it out in the 10th game. He crushed Berrettini’s hopes winning the fourth as well to sail into history.

“Novak is a great champion he is writing history on this court,” said Berrettini. “It is not the end it is the beginning for me. “Without my family, friends and team all this would not have been possible so I just say Grazie Grazie.”
