Kolkata : Brazilian Football is heading towards new era. The greatest Football nation is facing  trophy drought for 24 years, and now for change, they made major announcement by roping in one of the greatest head coach – Carlo Ancelotti, a name that requires no introductions.

Ancelotti, the first Brazil’s foreign coach in the century announced 25-man squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay on Monday (May 26) at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro.

One of the shocking news that caught everyone’s eyes was Neymar’s exclusion from the squad.

Ancelotti’s bold decision to exclude Neymar has sparked discussions. Recently, back at Santos after a muscular injury, Neymar was deemed unready.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of players who suffered injuries and cannot be in the national team, like Neymar,” Ancelotti said.

Although, he didn’t completely rule Neymar out from the plans.

Brazil has many talented players, and in Neymar’s specific case, we are counting on him. He came back to Brazil to play and prepare for the World Cup. I spoke to him this morning to explain that to him, and he is totally in agreement,” he added.

Another major absence is Real Madrid forward Rodrygo. The 24-year-old was expected to be a key part of Ancelotti’s first squad, especially given his excellent form in Spain and recent performances for Brazil. However, Rodrygo reportedly asked to be left out of the squad to rest after a long season that included domestic and European commitments.

Ancelotti agreed with the decision, understanding the physical and mental fatigue that can come from a packed schedule. Rodrygo is expected to return in future call-ups and remains a key part of Brazil’s attacking plans.

Midfield great Casemiro has made it into the squad after 18 months. He was ignored in Copa America squad last year too.

Ancelotti praised the Manchester United star, saying, “The national team needs these players, who have charisma, personality, and talent. In modern soccer, you have to also have posture, compromise, and sacrifice.”

His presence alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Andreas Pereira will strengthen Brazil’s midfield.

Vini Junior is also backed by Ancelotti, as he said “I am totally convinced that Vinicius will show his best version in the national team”.

Ancelotti also added on World Cup campaign of Brazil, “Brazilian society wants me to deliver a first World Cup title after 24 years, I know. What a tall order.”
