“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”

Read Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s latest Instagram post’s caption with a video which he posted at around 7 pm on August 15. Surely the whole nation was stunned. But what’s the mystery about ‘1929 hrs’? It put a question mark on everyone’s mind.

The homemade video is a montage of images from his debut to the last match he played last year depicting his cricketing journey with the Indian team. With the song Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon from the 1976 Hindi movie Kabhie Kabhie playing in the background, Dhoni turned poet to bid adieu.

However, the mystery has been unlocked. It was the same time (IST) last year on July 27 when India were bowled out by New Zealand in the semifinal of the World Cup in England making a way out of the tournament. From the time Dhoni stepped into the international arena in 2004, the Ranchi boy has surprised many with his bold decisions. And during his retirement too he didn’t disappoint.

Dhoni had announced his retirement from Tests in 2014 but carried on to play in ODIs and T20Is, leading India to the semifinals of the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 World T20. With 10,733 runs from 350 matches, Dhoni is fifth in the list of India’s all-time run-scorers in ODI behind Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
