Mumbai police arrests Hyderabad man over rape threats to Virat Kohli’s daughter

Telangana: The person who threatened to rape the daughter of Team India captain Virat Kohli was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Wednesday.

The name of the accused is Ramnagesh Alibathini and he has been arrested from Hyderabad. The 23-year-old has been arrested by the Cyber ​​Cell Police of Mumbai. Accused Ramnagesh is a software engineer and he used to make software for food delivery app earlier.

Following the Indian cricket team’s defeat against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, Kohli’s captaincy, and the Indian team’s performance in the UAE has triggered criticism from fans, it was Kohli’s support for teammate Mohammed Shami for which Kohli and his family had received threats. The 9 month old daughter of Virat and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma received rape threats from the account @Criccrazygirl on Twitter, the handle has since been deleted.

Earliest, The Delhi Commission for Women had taken cognizance of Kohli’s daughter receiving rape threats on Twitter. A notice was sent to the police by the Delhi Commission for Women. Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal termed the incident as “very shameful” which, it said, deserves “immediate attention.” Maliwal has demanded the arrest of the accused.

“It is learnt that he is being also attacked since he spoke against the incessant trolling of his teammate Mohammad Shami who was targeted for his religion by online trolls. DCW has issued a notice to police over a threat made on Twitter to rape Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s daughter. Our chairperson Swati Maliwal has called this ‘shameful,’ and called for immediate arrest of the accused,” the commission posted on Twitter, sharing an image of its letter addressed to the cyber-crime branch of the Delhi.
