Abu Dhabi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a record of 100 wins as first IPL captain on Saturday (September 19), just after he returned to the cricketing front in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 opening match. CSK defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets on Saturday.

CSK had been on a five-match losing mark against Mumbai, but after winning the opening game on Saturday, the Dhoni-led franchise finally managed a victory over the Rohit Sharma-led defending champions.

After 437 days, Dhoni returned to the cricket field as he last played in the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand in the semifinals. The former Indian skipper has announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 this year.

“We may practice enough but when you go on the field, you need to assess the conditions and give it your best. It took us time, for the bowlers to find the right length on this pitch. Plenty of positives but still plenty of areas for us to improve (upon),” Dhoni said after the victory in the opening match against Mumbai Indians.

“In the second half, there is a bit of movement for the bowlers until the dew sets in. If you don’t lose wickets early, you have the upper hand. These are the learnings,” he added. CSK will play next against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday (September 22) at Sharjah, while Mumbai will face-off Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday (September 23) in Abu Dhabi.
