Hobart : Hobart Hurricanes defeated Sydney Thunder by 7 wickets at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, and clinched their maiden Big Bash League (BBL) Title. Mitchell Ownen’s 108(42) played pivotal role in the victory.
Chasing 185 runs, Mitchell Owen went after the Sydney bowlers right from the first over.
His innings of 108(42) included 11 sixes and 6 boundaries with a whooping strike rate of 257.14. This ton is also fastest hundred in the league’s history.
After Owen’s dismissal in 10.2th over on 139 , Matthew Wade played a heroic cameo of 32*(17). Ben McDermott (18*) hit the winning runs in 14.1th over, thereby scripting history.
In first innings, Sydney Thunder openers skipper David Warner (48) & Jason Sangha (67) notched up 97 runs partnership.
However, the game began to turn in Hobart’s favour when skipper Nathan Ellis struck double wickets in 11th over.
Both Ellis and Riley Meredith ended up picking 3-fers , as Hobart stopped Sydney to 182-7 (20), avoiding any further big scores.
Owen was adjourned man of the match.
