Lyon:  Barcelona tried to rope in Memphis Depay during the summer transfer window, although the deal did not go through and the player stayed in Lyon. However, Barcelona did not yet give up on Depay and would try to sign him during the winter transfer window in January.

Although the club is going through financial turmoil, where they have asked the players to accept a wage cut, it did not stop them from being involved with Depay, now that Ansu Fati will be out for months. It looks like this deal will be the first thing Barcelona would like to seal.

Fati suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee during the match against Real Betis. He had an operation on Monday (November 9). The club is yet to release an official statement about how long he will be out. It is estimated to be around three to five months.

Depay did not rule out the chance of a possible transfer. When asked about his future he said to the media, “You ask me a lot about this question. But I’m not going to make promises that I’m not sure I can keep. I think Lyon has to take advantage of my presence here now. And I have to take advantage of being here. And that’s what I’m trying to do every day. You can ask those around me: I like to train and I try to be positive every day.”
