Manchester: Manchester United have reportedly edged closer to crack the deal with French defender Raphael Varane. As per sources, the Red Devils have already agreed on personal terms with Varane, and reportedly reached an agreement on the transfer with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, United are yet to agree on the fee and waiting for the completion of the final agreement after they can negotiate the price. Varane, at 28, is at the peak of his powers and already mentioned about leaving Real Madrid after playing for them for almost a decade in quest of finding a new set of challenges in his journey and refused his contract extension.

He had a staggering stint with the Los Blancos joining them from French side Lens in 2011 and quickly establishing himself as one of the reliable presences in the backline. Varane has already collected a couple of La Liga titles, four each set of Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup on the course. Internationally he was an astounding figure in France’s backline in the journey to lift the World Cup title back in 2018.

Varane offers everything, a side can expect from a defender, be it pace, strength, areal prowess, reactions, tackling, tactical awareness and good movements during set-pieces. He is one of the quickest defenders around and can become the missing piece of the puzzle for United who desperately need to sort out their defensive concerns.

Having already managed to sign Jadon Sancho, this move will surely be a lifeline for them boosting their chances to challenge for the league title while being optimistic in the Champions League run as well.
