Barcelona: Lionel Messi has become football’s second billionaire, according to Forbes. The Barcelona captain, who is estimated to pocket around £98million this year from his salary and endorsement, is also the highest-paid footballer in 2020

The Argentine, whose fiasco about his future at Barcelona made headlines and took the social world by a storm, is yet again at the media limelight as he became the second footballer to be in the billionaire club and also the youngest one.

After weeks of speculation about Messi leaving Barcelona, he was forced to stay at the club because of his humongous release clause, though the talisman believed he legally should have left as a free agent as the season got extended due to ongoing pandemic.

It was stated in his clause that he could decide his fate at the end of every season, and leave as a free agent. The clouds of a legal dispute hanged above both the parties, Messi however decided to stay to avoid any legal issues with the ‘club of his life’.

Recently, Messi released a limited edition Budweiser. The ad portrayed cheeky references to the star’s failed attempt to leave Spain. The ad ends with an appeal, mostly to his fans,  ‘never give up on greatness’. Messi is also sponsored by the likes of Adidas and Pepsi. His arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo is second on the list of Forbes who is set to earn £91m for the year 2020.
