Italy keep momentum; Germany,Spain triumph

Stuttgart: Italy advanced up their dominating unbeaten run to 37 games with a 5-0 win against Lithuania in the FIFA 2022 European World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday. Similarly, Germany kept their phase with a four to zero win over Iceland.

Moise Kean found the net twice for Italy along with Giocomo Raspadori and Giovanni Di Lorenzo to feature in the scoresheet while a howler from Lithuanian midfielder Edgaras Utkus added a goal to the tally.

Serge Gnabry who is in a real high scoring spirit for Germany found the net as early four minutes from the kick-off putting in a Leroy Sané assist. Sané himself found the net in the second half after Antoine Rüdiger had already extended the lead for the 2014 World Cup winners in the first half. Kai Havertz played Timo Werner to hammer the final nail in the coffin as Hansi Flick’s men bag a 4-0 win.

Elsewhere forwards Pablo Fornals and Ferran Torres inspired Spain in a 2-0 win over Kosovo while Denis Praet score the only goal of the tie as Belgium edge past Belarus.

Substitute Damian Szymańsk scored in the extra time for Poland making England share their points in a 1-1 scoreline , after skipper Harry Kane had put the 2021 UEFA European Championship finalists ahead in 72 minutes.

In other matches of the same day Albania beat San Marino 5-0 as Hungary went past Andorra and Greece edged over Sweden. Switzerland and Wales secured goal less draws against North Ireland and Estonia respectively.

The match day 6 of the qualifiers saw the end of the International break until October as the club competitions resume from this weekend.
