Kolkata: Defending Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan SG has completed the signing of versatile Spanish defender Hector Yuste. Hector hails from Cyprus and has recently played for Omonia Nikosia in the UEFA Europa League. Hector, who has played in over 480 matches in his career, has a plethora of experience and has faced Premier League opponents like Manchester United in the past.

The 35-year-old veteran player played in over 200 league games for the most of his career, which he spent in the Spanish second tier. Hector graduated from the Real Murcia and Cartagena FC junior academies, where he was able to secure a professional contract that launched his career in the Spanish division.

In both the top and bottom divisions of Spanish football, he has worn the jerseys of teams like Hercules, Salamanca, Granada, Cadiz, Racing Santander, and Mallorca. He has competed against teams from the top to the bottom of the Spanish league, including the Laliga, with Granada making his debut in 2014 against Deportivo de La Coruna. Yuste won the Cyprian Cup and the Cypriot Super Cup with Omonia Nicosia in the previous two campaigns. He participated in three Europa League tournaments, with his first two games coming against Apollon Limassol.

Hector is a capable defender who typically plays as a central defender but is as at home in the defensive midfield position. A highly aggressive and a physically dominant figure like Hector adds more depth to the Mariners squad who is aiming for a more successful season ahead of them.
