Kolkata : Two late goals makes it a 8-0 in the Kolkata derby of Indian Super League for ATK Mohun Bagan against arch rivals East Bengal FC. Vivekanand Yuva Bharati Krirangan with about 60,000 spectators witnessed the almighty ATK Mohun Bagan take over East Bengal FC to jump to 3rd spot in the league table of Indian Super League 2022-23.
The match started well off with both the teams putting pressure on each other. While Ashique Kuruniyan made the maiden attempt at the 4th minute, Salvo tackles Ceilton Silva to give East Bengal a free-kick. Following it, a foul by Lalchungnunga right at the edge of the box gave ATK Mohun Bagan a chance to take the lead. However, Dimitri Petratos goes for a powerful shot that goes over the crossbar.

The first quarter of the game was all in control of ATK Mohun Bagan, however the quarter was a tough battle between the teams. With a couple of scoring attacks, they were close to breaking the deadlock. Jerry and Naorem made some quick combinations to bring the ball in ATK Mohun Bagan’s half. In the 29th minute, VP Suhair entered the box across the line, squaring the ball to Mahesh but his shot went wide and over. All credits to a dazzling Kamaljit who turned down every single attack of ATK Mohun Bagan.
Suhair gets a yellow card for manhandling Ashique. Seconds later, Boumous rolls over the ground appealing for a foul, but the referee books him for his vehement protest. Similarly Alex Lima gets booked for showing protest. In the last few minutes of the first half, Manvir brought down a sprinting Jerry whereas Sarthak took on Ashique in a heavy tackle.

Finding ways to climb up the league table, the Mariners started the second-half on a positive note. Damjanovic passes a long ball for Ashique in the EBFC box. However, East Bengal clears it away to Glan, who is then fouled by East Bengal. A well timed defense from Lalchunghunga clears the danger brought up by Pritam Kotal, setting Ashyalong the left wing. Ashique’s throughq ball finds Petratos but his shot kisses the upright and goes out
In the 54th minute, Subhasish Bose fouled Suhair, who managed to earn a foul. The kick taken by Alex however was cleared by ATK Mohun Bagan defense. A brilliant move from East Bengal in the 64th minute, with skipper Cleiton Silva squared an incoming Jervis shot which was way wide off the mark.
Finally, in the 68th minute, the deadlock broke. ATK Mohun Bagan defender Slavko Damjanovic slots the ball in from close range. Boumous’ corner, flicked by Manvir in the 6-yard box found Slavko who gave ATK Mohun Bagan the lead. Following the goal, Silva runs up to the referee to ask for a foul but gets a yellow card instead.

In the last minute of the stipulated time, Petratos scored. Although Kiyan Nassiri’s initial shot was blocked by Kamaljit but the rebound was perfectly taken by Petratos to slot it into the second for ATK Mohun Bagan. his stride and slotted it in to double it for ATK Mohun Bagan.
