Goa : Bengaluru FC rode on Udanta Singh’s brace to crush Chennaiyin FC’s playoff hopes.

The Blues defeated The Marina Machans 3-0 on Republic Day at Bambolim Atheletic Stadium. Iman Basaf (12″) scored the opener for The Blues. Bengaluru missed their first-choice goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sadhu. Lara Sharma filled the void for the star-stopper.

The Southern Derby started frantically as both the teams were desperate for win. Chennaiyin missed an early chance in the tenth minute. Lukasz Gikiewicz close shot ricocheted from the bar and went off.In the 12th minute, Sunil Chhetri was put down inside the penalty area. Iman Basafa made no mistake in the spot-kick. Sharma was kept in the wrong direction as the delectable penalty thundered into the top left corner.

Chhetri was at the heart of the move as the iconic Indian captain showed composure. His unselfishness went to the highest order as he dummied his hit, cut into his left and put the ball on a plate for Udanta (42″) to score. The Marina Machans tried hard to draw level. Germanpreet Singh and Vladimir Koman tried their luck but the efforts went wide.

The second half witnessed a bossy Blues. Udanta (52″) doubled his tally with a cool finish rounding Debjit Majumder. The pacy winger snatched the ball from Mohd Sajid Dhot, failed Slavko Damjanovic to avert the danger too. It was Blues from there on as Prince Ibara and Rohit Kumar saw their efforts bearing no fruit.

Chennaiyin are fifth with 18 points from 13 matches. Bengaluru moved to sixth in the table with 17 points from 13 games.
