ISL 2021-22: Jamshedpur FC narrowly edge past Mumbai City FC to stay at top 4

Panjim: Owen Coyle’s Jamshedpur FC stunned Des Buckingham’s Mumbai City FC 3-2, stopping the latter from joining the top four of the Indian Super League table at Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Thursday. Greg Stewart’s brace saw Jamshed get the better at the last minute.

 

The Men of Steel took a lead as early as the ninth minute through Greg Stewart. Stewart returning from the injury itself became the second top highest scored for Jamshedpur. However the credit of the show goes to provider Ritwik Das. Das received an interception from Boris and back flipped it to Stewart who rendered Nawaz helpless.

 

 

 

Coyle’s men doubled the lead in the 30th minute through Das it self. Former East Bengal forward Daniel Chima Chukwu provided Das with the key assist, which the midfielder put past with ease. The Islanders went in to the break with a two-goal deficit.

 

 

 

Coming back, the Islanders seemed to have finally got hold of the game. As they found a much anticipated goal through Rahul Bheke. The midfielder slotted in an open goal while TP Rehenesh was dealing the aftermath of Igor Angulo’s shot in the 57th minute.

 

 

 

Diego Mauricio scored the equalizer shortly later , in the 86th minute through an awarded spot-kick. Peter Hartley’s foul on Mauricio did not go unnoticed as the forward put it past Rehenesh who had a made a brilliant save previously.

 

 

 

 

Despite the efforts Mumbai could not even take a point from the tie as a 93rd minute penalty from Stewart snatched the win from the Islanders.
