ISL 2021-22: ATK Mohun Bagan share spoils with Mumbai City FC

Goa: Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan display a full repertoire but were left high and dry. The supergiants of the Indian Super League ended with a 1-1 draw at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda.

 

David Williams scored the opener for ATKMB in the ninth minute. However, an own goal from Pritam Kotal in the 24th minute restored equivalence for Mumbai. Both teams made their fair chances of scoring in each half. Nevertheless, they could produce a winner.

The Mariners took control off the start emanating with bright skills. Liston Calaco was mangled down. However, it could not bring the free-kick for the Mariners. Mourtada Fall then passed the ball to Ahmed Jahouh. Jahouh dilly-dallied with Hugo Boumous pressing him hard. Mumbai tried hard to wrestle back. Tiri had to thwart a Cassio Gabriel’s attempt. However a cross from Bipin Singh failed to keep out Pritam Kotal. The deflecting the ball went into his own net.

Following the drinks break, Williams had a chance to double his tally. A sharp header from Calaco’s free-kick came off the woodwork.

Mohamad Nawaz then had a moment to forget when he charged out of his area in an attempt to head the ball clear. Boumous received it, but was a blue shirt refused him.

In the second half, Mumbai took off Diego Mauricio. The 30-year old Brazilian had a forgettable debut for the Islanders. Soon after, Boumous shot wide to a low cross of Manvir and Williams sold a cute dummy. At the other side, Angulo headed wide from Jahouh’s cross.At the hour mark, Islanders’ newbie Lallianzuala Chhangte came in for Vikram Pratap Singh. Immediately, he was in the thick of things as he flicked on a ball from Gabriel into the path of Angulo. Nevertheless Amrinder Singh saved the header

The result means ATKMB failed to break into the top-four. They are fifth with 20 points from 12 games. Mumbai’s winless run stretched to seven games. The reigning champions remained sixth in the table with 19 points from 13 matches.
