Dubai: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s big-hitting opener David Warner’s uninformed absence has raised many eyebrows, but his recent comment on a fan’s Instagram post left fans wondering – is this the end of David Warner at Sunrisers Hyderabad?

Warner started the 2021 season as captain, his 5th time leading the SRH but was sacked after managing just 1 win from the first 6 matches. The southpaw was replaced by Kane Williamson as skipper and soon found himself out of playing XI. In the ongoing edition, Warner has notched 195 runs at an average of 24.37 under his name. Warner, who has 5449 runs in the IPL and is among the most consistent overseas performers, he has been short of runs this year, and looked far from his very best.

Warner has been dropped from the playing XI because of poor form, has said that he won’t be seen at the stadium, and requested fans to extend their support for the Orange Cap in his absence and also dropped a hint that he might not play another match in this year’s IPL.
When a fan said he wanted Warner to make a strong comeback, the former SRH captain replied: “Unfortunately, won’t be again but keep supporting please.”

Recently SRH head coach Trevor Bayliss was also asked about Warner’s absence from the game in the post-match press conference and his response did highlight the current situation in the camp.

“We have a number of young players who haven’t even been to the ground, even as reserves, so we wanted to give them opportunity to come and experience a game. And that might continue for a few more games, we’ve got to sit down in a day or two and pick a team and a squad of 18.” Bayliss said.

“Dave obviously was watching the game at the hotel and giving his support to the boys. Just like everyone else. We’re all in this together,”  the head coach asserted.

Bayliss was further asked if this could be the beginning of the end of Warner at SRH, to which he said that a decision on Warner’s future was to be made in the future.

“Look that certainly has not been discussed. It is something that this is the last year before a major auction. Those decisions will be made further down the line. He has been a great contributor to Hyderabad Sunrisers for a number for a number of years now. He is very well respected with the amount of runs he has scored. I am sure he has got a lot more runs in him yet in the IPL.”

SRH are currently at the bottom of the points table with only 2 wins from 9 matches. SRH will next face MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings on September 30 in Sharjah.
