Mumbai: Delhi Capitals showcased pure dominance in their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) beating the Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in Mumbai on Saturday (April 10).  MS Dhoni’s side were blown away by a Prithwi Shaw storm while Shikhar Dhawan smashed a 54 ball 84 to help their side chased down a total of 189 in 18.4 overs.  Earlier, Chennai put on a stern total of 188 at the Wankhede Stadium with Suresh Raina(54) and Sam Curran(35) starring for the men in yellow.

The Super Kings faltered badly at the start losing both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis cheaply. Suresh Raina coupled with Moeen Ali started the rebuilding before the latter got dismissed for 36. Raina got to his half-century on his return to the IPL after a season’s absence setting up a good base but got run-out amidst a mix up in the middle. Skipper Dhoni followed him soon for a duck. However, duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran added a valuable 51 runs helping their side to 188/7 in 20 overs. Although Delhi bowlers leaked in the last few overs, still Chris Woakes(2/18)  and Avesh Khan(2/23) were quite good for them.

In reply it was all Shaw and Dhawan smashing everyone out of the park. The duo added 138 runs which very much sealed the deal for them. Newly-appointed skipper Rishabh Pant hit the winning boundary going 1 up against his master with Delhi ending on 190/3.
