IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals seek Redemption as Confident Gujarat Titans eye Winning Momentum

Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 52nd match of the Indian Premier League on Saturday, 9th May, at 7:30 PM at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. RR will head into this crucial clash after suffering a disappointing defeat in their previous match at the same venue, while GT will arrive full of confidence after registering an impressive victory over Punjab Kings in their last encounter.

Rajasthan Royals started their campaign in a fantastic manner, but after a few matches the momentum shifted, raising some concerns. Rajasthan Royals currently hold the 4th position on the points table with 12 points, having won 6 matches and lost 4 out of 10 games. After completing the first phase of their campaign at their second home ground in Guwahati, they shifted to their primary home venue, Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. They have played two matches so far this season at this stadium and have been unable to win either of them. In the last match on 1st May, they suffered a disappointing defeat despite scoring 225 runs and were unable to defend the massive total at the same venue. In bowling, they have quality names like Jofra Archer, Ravi Bishnoi, Nandre Burger, and Ravindra Jadeja, but they still need improvement in their bowling attack to take crucial wickets at the right moments. On the other hand, their fiery opening duo of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal has been outstanding, but questions still remain regarding the consistency of the middle order. However, in the last match, captain Riyan Parag delivered a solid innings, scoring 90 runs in the middle overs. At this crucial stage of the league, RR need improvement in these aspects to stay strong in the race for qualification.

On the other side, GT started their season in a decent way but made a strong comeback in the middle phase of the league with confidence and balance. Especially after the arrival of Jason Holder, the rhythm and balance of the team have looked impressive. In bowling, Mohammed Siraj, Holder, Prasidh Krishna, and Rashid Khan have done a fantastic job in recent matches. The middle-order concerns have also reduced because of the contribution from Washington Sundar along with strong support from the other batters. In their last match against Punjab Kings, GT restricted the opposition to 163 runs with disciplined bowling and later chased the target in a thrilling manner, where the middle order played a key role in securing victory. GT currently hold the 5th position on the table with the same number of points as RR — 12 points from 10 matches, with 6 wins and 4 losses.

In the last match between these two teams earlier this season, GT suffered a narrow defeat against RR in a thrilling last-over contest. Gujarat Titans lost the match by just 6 runs while chasing a target of 210. In IPL history, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals have faced each other 9 times so far. GT have dominated the rivalry with 6 wins, while RR have managed to win 3 matches.

The weather in Jaipur is expected to remain hot and dry with clear skies and almost no chance of rain. The temperature during the match is likely to stay between 34°C and 37°C at the start before cooling slightly later in the evening.

The pitch at Sawai Mansingh Stadium is expected to be batting-friendly and high-scoring. Reports suggest that the surface has produced big totals throughout the season, with teams successfully chasing scores above 220 at this venue. The fresh pitch is likely to provide good bounce and pace early in the innings, helping stroke-makers play aggressively, while the short boundaries and dry conditions may further assist batting. Bowlers could get some movement with the new ball initially, but as the match progresses, batting is expected to become easier. Dew in the second innings may also make chasing more comfortable, which means the captain winning the toss could prefer to bowl first. Humidity is expected to remain moderate, and light winds may provide some relief for both players and spectators. Overall, the forecast suggests a full and uninterrupted match with batting-friendly conditions and the possibility of dew later in the night helping the team batting second.

In this crucial clash, it will be interesting to see whether GT can take revenge for their earlier defeat or RR can bounce back strongly after their recent loss. Both teams will fight hard to strengthen their position in the playoff race and move one step closer toward qualification.
