Ahmedabad : Punjab Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by 11 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, in a high scoring IPL 2025 encounter. Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings new skipper started his captaincy debut with a win.
PBKS Batting first, lost Prabhsimran Singh (5) early for 28 runs.
Young Priyansh Arya (47) showed his power hittings with Bat, also notched vital 51 (21) runs partnership with skipper Shreyas Iyer (97*).
Even after Aryas’s dismissal, Iyer continued his exploits, hammering GT bowlers, especially Rashid Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Md Siraj.
Iyer’s innings of 97* (42) included 9 sixes and 5 boundaries.
Shashank Singh (44*) from other end also took an aggressive mode with 2 sixes and 6 boundaries as the duo smashed 81 (28) runs partnership, taking PBKS to 243-5 (20).
Sai Kishore picked 3 wickets for GT.
Chasing 244 runs, GT openers Sai Sudarshan (74) & skipper Shubman Gill (33) took an aggressive mode and smashed 61 runs opening stand, but lost Gill by the end of powerplay.
Sudarshan continued smashing bowlers but lost his wicket on 145 to Arshdeep Singh in 13th over after 84(40) runs partnership with Jos Buttler (54).
Sherfane Rutherford (46) joined Buttler at other end and started his innings hitting sixes and fours. However, PBKS impact player Vijay Kumar Vyshak bowled 2 overs for 10 runs in 16th & 18th over.
Eventually by the end both Buttler and Rutherford lost their wickets to Marco Jansen and Arshdeep respectively. Arshdeep defended 27 runs in last over, conceding 15 runs and Rutherford’s wicket, as GT ended on 232-5 , losing by 11 runs.
Iyer was adjourned Man of the match.
