IPL 2022: Virender Sehwag slams Gujarat Titans’ flop show against Mumbai Indians

Mumbai: For the first time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) Hardik Pandya led Gujrat Titans were off to a brilliant start with the opening pair of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill scoring an unbeaten 106 run stand.

However, because of their poor middle-order the game went down to the wire, as Gujarat Titans could not get over the line and lost by five runs against Mumbai Indians on Friday at the Brabourne stadium.

While this will not affect their standing in the points table, ex-India opener Virender Sehwag was disappointed with the Hardik Pandya-led side. Claiming that they dug their own grave, Sehwag blamed the middle order, and said they lost momentum as it was the turning point of the match, according to him.

“I was thinking that had GT openers flopped, it would have been better. Usually, when they flop, they end up winning. Now today they had such a great start, the chase should have been wrapped up with 2 overs to spare,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia dug their own grave today. They threw away a match that should have been won.” he added.

The table toppers, who needed just a single win to become the first team in IPL 2022 to make it to the playoffs, will play their next match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday (May 10) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
