Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders’ Pat Cummins will miss the rest of the IPL and will return home early to heal from a minor hip injury, according to reports.

According to cricket.com.au, the Australian Test skipper is returning to Sydney for recovery ahead of the national team’s trip to Sri Lanka next month. He was signed by KKR for Rs 7.25 crore.

Cummins’ rehabilitation is estimated to take a fortnight, according to the report.

Cummins is a key element of Australia’s ODI and T20 squads, as well as the Test team, as the country prepares for an intense 18-month cricket season.

Following the Sri Lanka trip, Australia will defend their T20 World Cup title at home, have a five-Test home summer, a Test tour of India, and an away Ashes campaign. The Aussies will then return to India for the ODI World Cup in October 2023.

The KKR team management, on the other hand, has yet to corroborate the report. Cummins only played five games in the IPL this year, but he took seven wickets at a 17.0 strike rate. He made 63 runs with the bat, including a blistering 14-ball 56 not out against Mumbai Indians last month, which was the joint highest fifty in IPL history.
