Mumbai: Former South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star player AB de Villiers has backed Virat Kohli over his below par performance in Indian Premier League 2022. Sharing his views on the same, Kohli’s friend de Villiers stated that it is always difficult for a batter to bounce back from bad form.

Virat  Kohli has not been in the best of forms in international cricket and a string of low scores in the ongoing season of IPL has not made his case any stronger. Batting at an average of 20.67, the former RCB skipper has so far scored 186 runs from 10 innings. Which also accumulated two successive golden ducks.

“As a batsman, you are only one or two bad knocks away from bad form. If it keeps coming at you it is difficult to bounce back from it,” de Villiers told AFP news agency.

While the 33-year-old did score a half-century in his last outing against Gujarat Titans, he took 53 deliveries to get 58 and the same put pressure on other batters. However, he has  failed to score a century in over 100 matches in all formats.

The star batter who has scored 3,403 runs in 184 matches in the IPL, says he has not been in touch with Kohli, but says the struggle of poor form becomes largely one of the mind.

“I cannot put a percentage to it but it is the mind and power of the mind which is the main battle. You do not become a bad player overnight. Virat would know it and I know it. I think it’s the way you think and set your mind. You need a clear mind and fresh energy whenever you play and then you can find a way out of a hole.” he signed off.

RCB is currently at the sixth position of the points table, they will next face MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium.
