Kolkata: Former India captain and current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, backed the two stalwarts in an interview with News18. In the ongoing IPL 2022, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not having the greatest of times with the bat, which has sparked a lot of discussions, with many former and current cricketers offering tips and having their input on the topic. Ganguly has now spoken up about it.

“They are great players and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player,” said BCCI president.

Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli has scored just 128 runs at an average of 16 in nine matches, while MI captain Rohit Sharma, like his squad, has struggled to get going. With an average of 19.13 runs per game, the opening hitter has 153 runs in eight games. Both batting giants are yet to reach the half-century mark.

Also, Ganguly stated that he is closely following the IPL 2022 and is impressed by the performances of the two new franchises. “Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching (the IPL). Any team can win and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujrat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants  – are doing well,” he said.

Gujarat Titans have been the side to beat in the IPL, winning all of the cliffhangers en route to a 14-point lead at the top of the points table.

In fourth place, the Lucknow Super Giants are also in contention for the playoffs. They are tied for third position with SunRisers Hyderabad and fifth place with RCB on 10 points.
