Kolkata: Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu tweeted his retirement on Saturday and then removed it thirty minutes later. His activities piqued the interest of his social media supporters, who wanted to know what was going on behind the scenes.

“I am happy to announce that this will be my last ipl. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and Csk for the wonderful journey (sic),” wrote Rayudu in his tweet.

Ambati Rayudu’s deleted IPL retirement tweet

The announcement of Ambati Rayudu, who has scored 271 runs in 12 games with an average of 27.10 in IPL 2022, stunned everyone since the 36-year-old still has plenty of cricket left in him. In such a circumstance, the subsequent deletion of that tweet left everyone speculating about the cause of the chain of events.

Following Rayudu announcing his departure from the IPL on Twitter, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan provided a clarification.

“I spoke to him and he is not retiring. He was disappointed with his performance and that’s why he might have put out that tweet. But he has deleted it and he is definitely not retiring…,” Viswanathan told Sportstar. “He was just not happy with his performance and maybe that’s why he tweeted. But everything is fine, we have had a word and he will be with us,” Viswanathan added.

Meanwhile, Rayudu took down the tweet after the CSK management reportedly talked to him and convinced him to withdraw his post.
