IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings defeats Royal Challengers Bangalore

Mumbai: Chennai Super Kings finally got in to their groove as they registered a dominating 7 wickets victory over Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League on Friday (April 16). Deepak Chahar (4/13) ran havoc with his swing at the Wankhede Stadium  spearheading a splendid bowling performance  holding off Punjab for a mere 106 before Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali help CSK cruise through to victory opening their account for the season.

Earlier, Punjab’s top order collapsed after being asked to bat. Chahar bamboozled Mayank Agarwal for a duck in the opening over before the landslide started. A couple of moment of brilliance from Ravindra Jadeja sent both KL Rahul and Chris Gayle with Nicolas Pooran registering two consecutive ducks. Such was the dominance of the Chennai bowlers that only four Punjab batters registered two digit scores. Besides Chahar, youngster Sam Curran(1/12) and Moeen Ali (1/17) were both quite good for the Super Kings. It looked like Punjab would not even register even 100 on the board until the new boy on block Shahrukh Khan played fighting knock of 47 which lead his side to score 106/8 in 20 overs.

Chennai though in reply, lost the early wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad but the duo of the veteran Du Plessis (36) and Moeen Ali(46) sent MS Dhoni’s side to 107/4 in 15.4 overs. Chahar rightfully was adjudged the man of the match.
