Dubai: With a fantastic season opener on the cards on Saturday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) got off to a rollicking start. Three time IPL winners Chennai Super (CSK) defeated the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 5 wickets.
Chennai Super Kings won toss, elected to bowl against Mumbai Indians in the opening game of Indian Premier League. MI scored 162/9 in the first innings.
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got MI off to a flying start before Piyush Chawla picked up the first wicket of Rohit Sharma in the 5th over.
Mumbai really could not get going after the early set backs as Chennai kept chipping away at the wickets and restricted the hosts to a par total.
The Chennai Super Kings then were in full control of their chase even though they lost two early wickets but their captain MS Dhoni and Faf Du Plesis ensured they were over the line with 5 wickets to spare.
