Kolkata: The Indian Premier League 2020 will be streamed live on Disney + Hotstar Premium. Fans willing to catch the game on a digital screen can subscribe either at Rs 498 for two months or at Rs 1499 annually.

Though the decision of streaming IPL for premium accounts will see a major fall in the digital audience of the cash-rich league, Star India is prepared to take the hit. This would increase the subscription-based business of its premier OTT service. Last year, the IPL had registered a cumulative 300 million viewers on Hotstar. The final between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians has registered as many as 18.6 million views, which is a record for any live sports event in India.

“This strategic move, however, will not change the overall P&L of the group. The part of sponsorship revenue loss will be covered by an increase in the subscription fee. The IPL audience will eventually stay with Star India. Fans not opting for subscription platform will switch to the Star Sports television network for the LIVE action,” said the source.
The entire event is scheduled to be played in UAE commencing from September 19 till the final on November 10, 2020.
