Abu Dhabi: Afghanistan’s leg spinning sensation Rashid Khan returned figures of 4-0-14-3 to help his side Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Delhi Capitals by 15 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) game here on Tuesday.
Defending a modest total of 162/4 Hyderabad needed quick wickets as Delhi batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer put on a brisk second wicket partnership of 40 runs. Rashid was thrown the ball to get them a wicket, and he did so immediately by picking up Iyer. His next two victims were Dhawan and then Rishabh Pant who looked good to take away the game from Sunrisers.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar ably supported Rashid Khan by picking up two crucial wickets of the dangerous Prithvi Shaw and Shimron Hetmyer. Eventually the Sunrisers bowling was too good to handle for the Delhi batsmen and they fell quite short of the target.
In the first innings, after they were sent into bat, Sunrisers came up with a brilliant opening stand of 77 runs between David Warner and Johnny Bairstow. After two quick wickets of Warner and Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson (41) carried on the good work with the bat for Hyderabad alongside Bairstow. A late 7-ball 12 contribution from Abdul Samad helped the one time champions get to a fighting total.
